On Thursday, March 23, 2017, at 11:30 PM, we received a ShotSpotter activation near the intersection of Massa St. and N. Main St. Soon after, we received a call of a gunshot victim in the street, in front of 2143 N. Main St. Officers found a 43-year-old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers provided first aid until medical personnel arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The victim's name is being withheld until proper notification to family members can be completed.

At this time, we have no witnesses that have come forward and we have very few leads. The suspect was described as wearing dark clothes and was last seen running northbound on N. Main St. The victim is a known gang member in the City of Salinas, but the actual motive for the shooting is unknown. Based on the information thus far, this case is being investigated as gang related. This is the 11th homicide in the City of Salinas this year.
