As part of the Winter DUI Enforcement Campaign the Salinas Police Department will be conducting a DUI checkpoint tonight. The holiday season is a time for celebrating family and friends. These celebratioins often include family and work parties in which alcohol is served. These parties are a great method for family and friends to have a good time. The problem comes when a partygoer has been drinking and makes the bad decision to drive.
Every year horrible tragedies occur throughout the State of California as a result of these bad decisions. The Salinas Police Department is doing everything it can to avoid these tragedies in Salinas. As a part of the Winter DUI Enforcement Campaign, the Police Department will be conducting a DUI / Driver's License checkpoint at an undisclosed location.
DUI checkpoints have been proven to be a deterent to drunk and drugged driving. Checkpoints help to educate the public on the dangers of driving drunk or drugged and help to disuade drivers from getting behind the wheel after drinking.
Funding for this checkpoint operation is from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
