On September 2, 2018, at approximately 12:02 am, officers responded to a victim of a shooting in the under 100 block of West Street. When officers arrived, they located Obed Orsonio (24) suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Medical staff tried valiantly to save Mr. Orsonio, but he succumbed to his injuries. Through the course of the investigation, Abran Rubio (21) was found to be the suspect. Officers searched the area and located Mr. Rubio attempting to hide in front of a nearby residence. He was arrested, interviewed and booked into Monterey County Jail for murder. Detectives are looking into the motive for this crime, as well as any gang implications.
