On Monday the 16th Salinas PD conducted a DUI/Driver's Licnese checkpoint at Cesar Chavez Library, 615 Williams Road. Officers conducted Field Sobriety Tests on 4 drivers but none of them was found to have been driving under the influence. However, officers cited 58 drivers for driving without a license and two additional drivers for driving on a suspended licnese. There were 31 other citations for hazzardous violations for a total of 91 citations. Two additional drivers were arrested for outstanding warrants. 1163 cars drove through the checkpoint with 656 drivers contacted. Three motorcycle units conducted 44 traffic stops in the area of the checkpoint. The checkpoint lasted from approximately 630pm until 1030pm.
The checkpoint was funded with a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
