This is an updated press realease for incident previously reported on August 25th. Previous press release stated the following:
On Tuesday, August 25th at approximately 10:30 pm Salinas Police officers responded the area of 30 Soledad St. on a report of a man down who was the victim of a battery. On arrival they found Tyler Webb (26) suffering from a major head injury. Webb was transported to a local hospital where he later died as a result of his injury. Salinas Police Detectives are still looking for any witnesses to this incident. Witnesses are encouraged to contact Detective Rivera at 831-758-7971 or Detective Murphy at 831-758- 7322. On Tuesday, August 25th at approximately 10:30 pm Salinas Police officers responded the area of 30 Soledad St. on a report of a man down who was the victim of a battery. Upon arrival they found Tyler Webb (26) suffering from a major head injury. Webb was transported to a local hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries. Since the incident there have been varying accounts on the street ranging from a simple fall to 'horse play” gone wrong. On Sunday (8/30) Salinas Police Investigators determined that Webb's death was result of being assaulted by Davion Smith (42) who is a known trasient who resides in the area. It was determined that Smith punched Webb in the face rendering him unconscious causing Webb to strike the back of his head on the concrete. Smith was arrested last night after he was found in one of his tents at Bridge and E. Lake St. Smith was booked at Monterey County Jail for Homicide. Case is still actively being investigated.
