A Salinas Police officer observed Carlos Amezcua (27) run the stop sign at Klamath and Arcadia. A traffic stop was initiated but Amezcua took off in his '97 Nissan pick-up with his pit bull chained up inside the open bed of the truck. The pursuit lasted approximately 1/4 mile and ended when Amezcua sped into the driveway of his own home and crashed into the side of his father's truck, which was parked. Amezcua ran into the house and then out the back door. A perimeter was established and Amezcua was eventually found hiding down the street. He was very intoxicated and due to prior convictions, he was charged with Felony DUI. He was also charged with Felony Pursuit, Parole violation and Animal Cruelty. He was booked into Monterey County Jail. The dog was not injured and turned over to family members.
