Vehicle Pursuit, Possession of Stolen Vehicle and Violation of Shelter in Place Order
On 4-13-2020 at approximately 12:49 am, officers attempted to stop a vehicle for running a stop sign in the area of San Merino Way and E. Romie Lane. The driver later identified as Angel Diaz (18) immediately accelerated and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit lasted approximately 3.1 miles and reached speeds near 100 mph. Diaz made a left turn onto Cayuga St from Clay St. not realizing it was a dead end. He ultimately crashed into a fence leading to the rear of Salinas High School.
Diaz and two other males exited the vehicle and fled. Officers, arriving in the area, were able to locate and arrest two suspects; driver Angel Diaz (18) and a male juvenile (17). The investigation revealed the vehicle driven by Diaz was an unreported stolen vehicle and that these same suspects had been arrested three days prior in another stolen vehicle. The third occupant in the vehicle was not located.
Diaz was transported to county jail and booked on charges of evading, possession of stolen vehicle, resisting arrest and violation of the shelter in place order. The juvenile (17) was cited and released on charges of resisting arrest and violation of the shelter in place order.
