Incident: Attempted Robbery/ Assault with a Deadly Weapon

A man and a woman were seated in their vehicle in the parking lot along the east side of Northridge Mall. A male armed with a handgun approached the passenger side of the vehicle. The suspect pointed the handgun at the male in the passenger seat and motioned with his hand for him to exit the vehicle. When the victim did not comply the suspect pulled the trigger but the weapon did not fire. The victims were able back out and drive out of harm's way.
Working with Mall security officers believed they located the suspect and a high-risk car stop was conducted in the Mall parking lot. The 17-year-old suspect was positively identified and was in possession of the firearm. He was booked into Juvenile Hall.
