At approximately 12:50 pm, on August 3, 2016, Salinas Police Officers were dispatched to a victim of a shooting in the 1100 block of C Street. Upon arriving on scene, officers found a Hispanic male juvenile suffering from gunshot wounds. While the victim was able to speak to officers upon our arrival, his condition quickly deteriorated as medical personnel attempted to save his life. The male was transported to Natividad Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
The initial investigation shows the victim and another friend were outside a residence talking when they were approached by two suspects. As the suspects approached, they both pulled out handguns and began shooting at the victim and his friend. After several rounds were fired, the suspects fled onto Josefine St., possibly to a waiting vehicle. The suspects were described as two Hispanic male adults in their early 20's, wearing dark clothing. The possible associated vehicle is described as a silver or white 4-door compact sedan. The vehicle was last seen northbound on Josephine St. No other persons were injured in the shooting.
The 17-year-old victim is a resident of Salinas and his name is being withheld until proper notification to his family can be completed. This is the 21st homicide in the city this year and the third in the last four days. Each of the last three homicides are being investigated as gang related. It is too early in the investigations to definitively say they are related to each other.
